  1. Sound impressions

Electro & Ska

This seems to be a synthpop in moderated Ska beat. Then it has an atmosphere of the '80s European bands like, "Culture club", or "Spandau Ballet".

Relaxed

The human playing bass, drums, percussion, electric guitar, and synthesizer make an machine like ensemble in slow Ska beat.

In the main melody, Sandii sings a unique lyrics written in English smoothly, in her relaxed, and slightly husky voice.

Eatin' pleasure

Sandii's "Eatin' pleasure" might be one of the uniquest Electro pop album in its pioneer days, in terms of its sound.

The participation of "Haruomi Hosono" is making an ensemble particularly special.

Biography

Sandy was born, and grown in Japan until 10 years old, she then moved to Hawaii, and lived in there until she graduated from high school.

In 1975, she debuted as "Sandii Ai" with her first single "Kuchiduke ha yurushite" (Please don't kiss me). Then, she began to release a single record regularly, like the vast majority of new singers were doing in the same way.

In 1976, Sandii released an excellent pop song, "Good-bye morning" as her 4th single record.

She also entered a famous "Yamaha Popular song contest" (Pop-con) with this song. And luckily, she won the 1st prize among a few hundreds of participants.

She also became a champion in a following "World Popular Song Festival", and quickly became the focus of attention

Since then, she widened her appeal, and in 1977, she released a beautiful Jazz Bossa "Love squall" for the ending theme of a popular TV animation series "Lupin the 3rd".

Because the quality of the song was so high, it also contributed to improve the image of the TV anime series, since it was regarded as a programs for children.

Actually, "Lupin the 3rd" was perhaps the first such anime series, which targeted adults as an audience.

From 1979, she started a collaboration with YMO, and released this unique album titled "Eatin' pleaseure".

At the same time, she teamed up with Makoto Kubota and formed a progressive rock group "Sandii & the Sunsets".

The band gained more recognition from overseas than Japan, and Sandii opened a new horizon for her music through the band activities.

We might have a chance to talk about her, since she is a newsy artist.
