Hi. Today's song is "Nanohana Wave" (waves of rapeseed flowers) by as "Satoshi Bandoh".
Like in many countries, you can see yellow rapeseed flower fields in the country side of Japan during this season.
They are not just grown for oil production purpose, but as the enjoyable attractions for tourists.
According to an interview, "Satoshi Bandoh", the composer of this song, and the drummer of a famed fusion band "T-SQUARE", got inspiration of this charming melody when he came across fields of rapeseed flowers, while he was driving in "Miura peninsula", a major production area of "Daikon" (winter radish), near Yokohama.
It is a pure & stylish nice smooth Jazz.

The drums, bass, electric guitar, and the keyboard join, and start the introduction with a bit of floating feeling.
In the main part,"Takahiro Miyazaki"'s excellent play of the alto sax demonstrates a melodious passage of the main part in a pure and handsome sound. Of course, "Takahiro Miyazaki" is a former saxophonist of T-SQUARE.
Bandoh's steady, and well controlled drum play is adding a lot of value to this stylish tune.

"Satoshi Bandoh" is a composer, arranger, a leader of "Bando band", and the 7th Drummer of Japan's one of the most notable Fusion band, "T-Square".
Actually, this is his 16th year at "T-Square", and he is becoming the longest serving drummer ahead of the previous record holder, "Hiroyuki Noritake".
"Satoshi Bandoh" debuted as a member of "T-Square" in 2004 with their 31st album "Passion Flower". As a solo musician, he released his fiest album "Happy Life!" in 2011. Since the, 2 studio albums have been released until now.

Early times
"Satoshi Bandoh" started learning the "Electone", a brand of Yamaha Electronic Organ, when he was 4.
He continued to learn the Electone until he became 12.
But he was curious enough to touch & play with the drum set happened to be there in the music class, while he was studying the Electone. At that time, he was 8 years old.
Eventually, he put more passion into playing the drums, and formed a first band with peers when he was a middle school student.
He got into playing the drums by copying a large selection of "T-Square"'s instrumental numbers. He also enjoyed learning from the popular Fusion tracks of overseas players, like performed by ed from , as well as the popular foreign Fusion instrumentals, of the players, like, "Lee Ritenour", "Larry Carlton", "Dave Weckl band".
Joining T-Square
His enthusiasm finally send himself in a drum clinic of "Kōzō Suganuma", who is a known expert in Jazz drumming, and used to be a member of a legendary Fusion band, "99.99" (Four nines).
While "Bandoh" was learning at "Suganuma"'s clinic, "Suganuma", the tutor of the clinic quickly noticed "Bandoh"'s potential, and recommended him to the manager of a famous live music bar, "Pit inn", as a drummer for their domestic session band at that time.
By some amazing coincidence, a known keyboardist, "Keizō Kawano", who was almost a member of "T-SQUARE" around that time, was also playing in this session band.
"Bandoh", and "Kawano" naturally came to know each other.
And one day, "Kawano" invited "Bandoh" if he wish to play at "T-Square" as an extra.
The offer was a real bonanza for "Bandoh". He began to collaborate with the super group he had been longing for since childhood.
And soon, "Bandoh" was accepted & welcomed as a regular member of "T-SQUARE".
As a regular
"T-SQUARE" is a known Fusion group active since 1976, though they call themselves as a "Pop instrumental band."
The band is recognized as one of the pioneers in the Japanese Jazz Fusion scene, and have a lot of fans also in the overseas.
Since debut, the group has built a glorious career as a super instrumental unit, and praised as a model of the Japanese Fusion group.
But in 2000, "T-Square" suddenly announced that they dismantle the band, and move to a unit system, which was like a one-time session band.
They continued this one-time session style for almost 4 years, by inviting various excellent musicians from the outside of their past friendship.
Actually, the works they achieved in this period was fulfilling.
In 2004, "T-SQUARE" decided to go back to an orthodox band style with fixed members, but replacing few members to the new face.
"Satoshi Bandoh" was talent-spotted as a drummer on this occasion.
Pure & accurate
"Satoshi Bandoh" was only 20 years old when he joined "T-SQUARE".
But his drumming was pure, accurate & stylish, and enough to convince people that his would be the best drummer for "T-SQUARE" sound.
In addition to that, "Bandoh" was a long time fan of "T-SQUARE", and he had mastered a song line up them.
So, he was able to play the melodies of "T-SQUARE"s almost perfectly from the beginning. And surprised other members of the band.
Since then, he has been the first drummer of "T-SQUARE" for more than 15 years.
Melody maker
"Satoshi Bandoh" is not just an excellent drummer, but also a talented composer.
He has formed his own instrumental team, "Bandoband" since 2011, and releasing his melodies through this group.
Up to this time, they have released 3 instrumental albums under "Satoshi Bandoh" name.
Collaboration
Not only the activities already introduced, but he is also actively collaborating with various other musicians.
A Jazz rock band, "Dimension" is a group that "Bandoh" is often collaborating with.
On top of that, he is participating the gigs of the assorted artists, like, "DREAMS COME TRUE", "Senri Ōe", "Kōji Kikkawa", "May J.", "Little Glee Monster" and etc.

Finally, here is a music clip by "T-SQUARE", and the title is "SKY DRIVE" from their latest album, "HORIZON" (2019).
The musician playing the drums at the beginning of the video is "Satoshi Bandoh".
The album was recorded in the United States by "T-Square" & a keyboardist, "Philippe Saisse" who rescued a T-Square member, "Keizo Kawano", because "Kawano" was unable to join due to a sudden illness.
The song is very much "T-SQUARE" like freshening & pleasant pop sound.
