Debut
"Hatsumi Shibata" started her career by singing at the officer's club of the US military camp in 1961 when she was just 9 years old.
Actually from the end of WW2(1945) to the mid '60s, singing in the US military camp was nothing special for the children of Japanese musicians. And quite a few of the grand old singers experienced it when they were young.
And in 1968, when she was 16, "Hatsumi Shibata" debuted as a solo singer with her 1st single "Otome-no kisetsu"(A season for maidens).
Second debut
For few years after the debut, she could not catch the wave.
Then, she re-branded herself to a more adult singer, and released a new single "Aikagi" (Spare key) under new identity in 1974.
Fortunately, this song became her first smash hit. And she gained some attention.
And very luckily, she was selected as an assistant presenter for a newly started TV music program "Sound in S", which was broadcasted nationally.
Because, "Sound in S" provided fairly sophisticated high quality music, it soon achieved a reasonable level of popularity. And eventually, it became one of the long-running program for the station.
After all, the program lasted for 7 years. And "Hatsumi Shibata" had continued to be a cast through out its broadcasting period.
And her name and face well penetrated into the people thanks to this program.
Luxury night
Around mid '70s, she quickly gained the popularity and was about to join a group of popular singers.
And in 1977, her 7th single "My luxury night", which was slow, elegant and grand ballad written by Kisugi siblings, finally became a super hit.
By this big hit, she was chosen as a participant for the most prestigious TV music program called "Kō-haku Uta-gassen" (Red and White Song Battle) which only broadcasted once a year in the night of the New year eve.
Afterwards
After she established her name as a popular singer, she had busy days through out '70s and '80s.
In the 1990s, due to the change of public preference for music, her appearance on TV became fewer, but she was constantly holding a concert from big stage to a Jazz club in Ginza.
Surprise
It was a surprising thing but she suddenly passed away by heart attack in 2010.
Many Fans mourned her loss and prayed for her happiness in the next life.
