[Floaty & relaxing] No.204 "des mots perdus" by mondialito
Hi. It suddenly becomes really cold in Japan, just like someone turned the switch from "summer" to "Winter".
Then, Today's choice is a nice autumnly(!) song, "des mots perdus" (lost words) by "mondialito".
"des mots perdus" is a floaty & relaxing pop song in an acoustic electronic tone, performed by a mixed pop duo "mondialito".
"mondialito" is unique in its music style, since the pair sings their songs mostly in French, and partly in English, even it is a Japanese group. So, their songs sound cosmopolitan.

Sound impression
Floaty & minimal
This is a calm and soothing electronic pop song in a moderated speed.
It is just like morning air in a autumn forest.
Airy & peaceful
Soft & smooth programmed synthesizer sounds, rhythm, and a volume swell, (or "violining") by the electric guitar begin a peaceful introduction.
In the main part, the synth bass, and the acoustic guitar (folk guitar) also join, and accompany a singer.
Whispering, and angelic voice of "Junko", and her self chorus is airy, and like purifying the space.
About the artist
mondialito Angelic voice in electronic tone
"mondialito" (French. Worldwide, global in English) is a Japanese Pop duo formed in around 2002.
Their sound style is basically a combination of an ambient electronic sound and an angel like whispering vocal, and people sometimes called their sound "Neo-acoustic electronica".
In a sense, it remind us a bit of "Enya", an Irish singer-songwriter, known as a leading artist in New-age, or Celtic music.
But what we think particularly unique with this duo is that their songs are written and sung mostly in French. Therefore, they are distinctive in Japanese popular music scene, where lyrics in Japanese dominate.
"mondialito" debuted in 2002 with their first album, "note of dawn". Since then, 4 original albums have been released until now.

Early times
As long as we have checked, there isn't much information about the pre-history of "mondialito".
We would like to update this section if we find any reference.
Debut
According to Wikipedia, or a profile page at lazur-record.com, a singer "Junko" (Vocalist & lyricist of "mondialito") and a musician "Toshiya Fueoka" (Composer, guitarist, & programmer) teamed up a pop duo "mondialito" in 2002.
In June 2002, just few months before debuting, the duo participated in "World cup compilation" together with a Swedish music producer "Tore Johansson".
(We couldn't identify the "World cup compilation" album. But it is at least not likely "The Official Album of the 2002 FIFA World Cup".)
In October 2002, the pop duo "mondialito" finally debuted with their first album "note of dawn". A noteworthy fact is that the album contained a song titled "Last Sleep Of A Boy" which was offered by "Johan Angergård", a member of Swedish pop goup "club8".
In overseas
In April 2004, the group released their 2nd album, "avant la pluie". (Before the rain).
The album was also released in Hong kong & Korea. And in Korea, one of the album songs titled, "notre echec" (Our failure, or mistake), was used as an advertising jingle for "LG", an electronic giant of Korea.
"mondialito" was also invited as a guest from a radio station in France in this year.
("notre echec" is actually a cover of well known Japanese hit song, "Bokutachi-no shippai" by "Dōji Morita". It was originally released in 1976, and revived in 1993.)
In December 2005, the 3rd album of the duo, titled "mondialito" became on sale.
On this album, a French singer "Celine", who once helped a French singer "Benjamin Biolaya" as a backing chorus on his recording, was invited as a chorus.
Concert tours
In 2006, with the growing popularity of the group, "mondialito" went on concert tours in Taiwan, Korea, Tokyo and etc.
And in March 2008, the duo released the 4th album "che mon amoureux" (Meaning not clear).
At the same time, "mondialito" had a joint tours with a Swedish Pop duo "club8", and a British rock group "The Starlets" in Japan.
Unique music
"mondialito" is, with no doubt, a unique pop group in the J-pop with their distinctive acoustic electronic sound.
Their peaceful, refined & simplified electronic sound is almost like an ambient music. And on top of that, the vocalist sings all the songs in French. (some exception in the first album.)
In the web site of "lazur-record.com" in which the duo belongs, there is a short description about the sound of "mondialito", like,
... sounds like Juana Molina, Keren ann, Serge Gainsbourg, Hope sandoval, whispering luminous folk tunes amid electronic tone.Junko's angelic voice flicker in those sound scape...
quoted from "artist: mondialito" www.lazur-record.com
Yeah, exactly. This explains their sound 10 times better than we do.
About Junko & Toshiya Fueoka
As far as we can see, there aren't much information (virtually nothing) about their respective music history for "Junko" & "Toshiya Fueoka" before debuting.
Not only prehistory, but we couldn't find their biographical information neither.
From some articles on the internet (pretty old though), "Junko" is a resident in France, and "Fueoka" has moved to Taiwan and producing singers like "waa" (Waa Wei or 魏如萱).
Anyway, we would like to update this section as soon as we find any details.
New album ?
Seemingly, the duo is not so active since they have released their latest album in 2008.
A music group like "mondialito", performs such a fashionable & delicate songs, is so rare and precious.
We are looking forward to see their possible come back in the near future.

Video clip
As far as we can tell, it seems there isn't any music video of today's song on the internet.
In place of that, we would like to introduce another track of "mondialito" from their first album "note of dawn". And its title is "Veil Of Winter".
In their debut album, "note of dawn", most of the songs are sung in English, including this song "Veil Of Winter", the opening track of the album.
This is a simple, straight, and stylish Indie-rock.
And, Junko's vocal is like an angel.
If you like, please listen.
