  1. Sound impressions

Refined slow swing

This is a well refined slow swing in rich acoustic arrangement.

The silent brush drumming, double bass, acoustic piano and the saxophone start a nightly introduction, and the clear high tone voice of Tomoko Aran joins supported by the bass solo.

Focusing on her beautiful vocal, the piano and saxophone plays an ad-rib alternatively, and it lasts until the end of the song.

The marimba solo like interesting electric piano play is in the bridge, and is impressive and amusing in this Jazzy sound.

  1. About the artist

A lyricist with crystal voice

Tomoko Aran debuted in 1981 with single "Kanashiki vaudevillian"(A pitiful vaudevillian). Since then, 8 singles, and 9 original, plus 1 best album has been released until now.
(Wikipedia, Tomoko Aran)

Tomoko Aran was originally debuted as a lyricist in 1977. Her lyric is offered for few of female idol stars, and some became a memorable smash hit.

In 1981, she finally debuted as a singer, with having full support from expert Jazz rock group "Mariah" which was lead by a superior saxophonist "Yasuaki Shimizu".

She has released 9 original album until now, but the impression of the albums varies by its backing team.

Her first 3 albums, (all of them have unique "four-character idiom" look alike titles.), were backed by "Mariah", therefore the arrangement of the songs spread wide from refined modern Jazz to the almost progressive rock category.

Actually, thick and stylish impression of her music was formed during this period.

From her 4th album "More relax" in 1984, one of the Japan's most popular fusion group "Casiopea" started to support her. And this approach brought in an remarkable change on her music.

Casiopea sound is sunny, bright and thrilling type of fusion at that time, and 1984 was their most active and hot-blooded period.

Therefore, this 4th album looks like almost a Casiopea's album with vocal, then it might be enjoyable even for the Casiopea fans.

Like such, various talented creators were participated in her albums, and everybody created own unique music. So, it would be interesting to compare the differences from the backing musicians.

And it seems this is proving her flexibility to collaborate with the different types of music.
