- Sound impressions
Relaxing swing
This seems to be a nice relaxing swing Jazz in a middle tempo.
Relaxing
The introduction begins with the instruments like the bass, drums, acoustic piano, classic guitar, strings, percussions and the clarinet. Its ensemble is charming.
The beautiful solo play of the clarinet in the middle of the song, is a performance of a Brazilian clarinetist and saxophonist "Nailor Proveta" of the "Banda Mantiqueira" (band).
Lisa Ono's vocal is calm and relaxed as usual, and comfortable to listen.
- About the artist
Lisa Ono"Venus" of Bossa the Nova
"Lisa Ono" is a Brazilian born, Japanese singer-songwriter, and a guitarist active since 1989.
She has been a notable Bossa Nova singer not only popular in Japan, but also recognized in the world.
"Ono" debuted in 1989 with single "You're so unique". Since then, 9 singles, and 33 original, plus 12 best albums have been released until now.
Early days of a "Queen"
Now a days, the phrase "The Queen of Bossa nova" is used as if it is exclusive for Lisa Ono in Japan, since she is so remarkable in this category.
But as common for newly debuting artists, she also had a challenging period at the beginning.
Otona no...
There is a web site called "Otona no music calendar" (A music calendar for adults , Japanese), introducing interesting stories, or trivia on the Japanese pop music.
In an article of that site, posted on 03-06-2015, a shrewd music producer, who managed the debut, and promotion of "Lisa Ono", is recollecting episodes related with.
It is an interesting story, so, we would like to introduce its essence a bit.
Contract
In the late '80s, "Lisa Ono" had been showing her "singing with a guitar" style Bossa Nova performance in various venues, as a semi-professional singer.
She quickly became famous among the people in the music business, and began to receive offers from few music firms.
And by-and-by, she contracted with a bit fashionable label "MIDI",
Exchange views
One day, a producer at "Midi", and "Lisa Ono" had a meeting to exchange views on her direction of music, and a way of promotion.
Naturally, "Lisa Ono"'s intention was to sing pure Bossa Nova, or Brazilian music as authentic as possible, including singing in Portuguese as well.
And for that sake, she was strongly hoping to do recording in Brazil.
Sing in Japanese
Conversely, the producer was thinking to ask her to sing songs in Japanese language.
And, provide her a talented music producer like, "Ryū-ichi Sakamoto", and create the latest pop music in Latin flavor.
(Actually, what the producer suggested was logical, reasonable, and a standard approach in the music market of that time, as far as we see. Because, the songs in foreign language were a bit distant from the people.)
Gap
So, the gap between each other was too wide to be filled.
Finally, the producer accepted "Ono"'s opinion, and approved a budget for Brazil recording as well.
Excellent
The CD, which "Lisa Ono" recorded in Brazil came out in a excellent quality album.
The producer agreed its high quality, but he was still not sure how he can sell this totally foreign, or sang in only Portuguese and English album, in Japanese market.
Anyway, her album was released with a catch phrase, "First in Japan Bossa Nova singer, "Lisa Ono"'s first album".
Sold well
Contrary to the producer's expectation, her songs quickly became popular, and the debut album "Catupiry" sold well.
The producer soon received additional orders for pressing new CDs.
A good lesson
And now, Lisa Ono is an internationally popular Japanese singer of Brazilian music.
The producer thought, if she accepted his suggestion at that time, and sang in Japanese, or worked with "Sakamoto"... Perhaps, we might have not seen the Bossa Nova queen, "Lisa Ono".
And he learned what we feel right is not always correct.
It is a suggestive story, and we like it.

Video clip
Finally here is a music video of "Minato-ga mieru Oka" (A hill offers a view of port), covered by Lisa Ono in 2018.
"Minato..." is a classical popular song of Japan. It was originally sang by "Aiko Hirano", and released in 1947.
This is an elegant and romantic, typical good old Japanese popular music.
One of the most loved pop song, and many singers have released a cover version.
"Lisa Ono" is aspiring recently for covering good Japanese songs in her style.
And this is a pick out from her such album, "Tabi soshite furusato" (Journey & home) released in 2018.
If you like, please listen.
